Filmmakers to Follow Orlando Artist at Walk to Defeat ALS

ORLANDO, Fla. – A film production company specializing in human interest documentaries is shooting a feature-length film about local businessman, Dan Ellis.

Ellis, who has ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, began painting with the help of his two children in 2010, after being diagnosed with the most critical type of ALS. His children became his hands when the disease stole his ability to hold a paintbrush.

“The Dan Ellis Project” is an inspirational film produced by Say True Films, which illustrates the truths of  Lou Gehrig’s Disease, but not the defeat. The film will highlight the strength of the Ellis family and the power of courage, faith and maintaining a positive attitude.

Filmmakers will capture the Ellis family as they walk with their team, “Dan’s Burger Bunch,” at The Walk to Defeat ALS on Friday, March 9th at Lake Eola.

More than 1,000 people will walk with them, joining the fight to find a cure for a deadly illness. ALS progressively paralyzes its victims, attacking nerve cells and pathways in the brain or spinal cord. ALS has no known cause or cure, but the Orlando community is rallying together to change that.

Wheelchair-bound patients along with their families and friends will make a 2-mile trek in The Walk to Defeat ALS™, hoping their steps will make a difference for ALS patients living in the Orlando area.

Last year, these events raised nearly $1.2 million around the State of Florida.
