Protests Move Positive Agenda Along as the World Mourns George Floyd

News Coverage by HARRIET KAPLAN

George Floyd was memorialized in Minnesota by family, friends and admirers as the world protested for changes to laws that discriminate against African-Americans.

Putting an end to police brutality was the clear message among protesters who took to the streets in the big cities and in smaller towns in the U.S. and abroad.

“Over the last couple of days I attended two protests, one in the San Fernando Valley and on Wednesday I was at Cal State Northridge,” said writer Harriet Kaplan. “Actually the two protests were not that different. The three things I experienced were community, a sense of unity and a strong message.”

“People want justice for their brethren and I thought the people were empassioned, they had a common cause and want to fairness and justice,” Kaplan said. “There were different aged people at the protests, but they were all motivated by the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery.”
